Light military helicopter market in decline – report

The light military rotorcraft market has entered a period that will see annual production generally head downward during the next 15 years, according to a report by Forecast International.

The firm projects that manufacturers will build 165 light military rotorcraft in 2014 and 166 in 2015, with production then climbing to 208 rotorcraft in 2016. However, this production spike is expected to be a temporary, one-year phenomenon, with annual production resuming a downward track in 2017, and declining to only 55 rotorcraft in 2028.

Iraqi specialists prepared Mi-28NE combat helicopters delivered from Russia for combat employment

Mi-28NE Night Hunter combat helicopters delivered to Iraq from Russia are ready to take part in operations against Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) terrorist group, Interfax-AVN reports with reference to Iraqi Ministry of Defense.

“Minister of Defense, Khaled al-Obeidi and a number of high-ranking commanders attended the final stage of preparation of the first batch of helicopters, which included munition loading”, – said in the statement of the Iraqi Ministry of Defense.

Finmeccanica out, US’s Sikorsky joins Navy copter acquisition race


The infamous VVIP helicopter scandal has claimed another victim. The defence ministry has ejected the European NH-90 chopper, linked to Italian conglomerate Finmeccanica, out of the race to supply 16 multirole helicopters to the Navy.

The commercial bid of the other contender in fray, American Sikorsky-70B choppers, will now be opened this month after a long delay. “Both NH-90 and Sikorsky-70B choppers had cleared the technical trials held a couple of years ago,” said a MoD source.

WASHINGTON, October 30 (RIA Novosti) – Kabul has not asked for more Russian Mi-17 helicopters, a spokesman for NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan Chris Belcher told RIA Novosti on Thursday.

Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) has announced on Thursday that the deal between the United States and Russia for the Mi-17 helicopters was completed on October 29.
